When learning sign language, understand that because word aren't spoken, facial expressions are very important. Deaf people are used to expressing themselves with their facial expressions more than people with normal hearing, even though the literal meaning of words are conveyed with the hands. This means that as you learn to communicate with sign language, you want to be sure that your facial expressions match what you're saying. Similarly, eye contact is very important when communicating with the hearing impaired. Though some of these aspects of learning sign language are challenging, it is good to know about them.

If they make up their mind to do so, just about anybody can learn sign language. You can't expect to be an expert right away, and when you see two deaf people signing you may think that you'll never be that good.
